Hello friends,

                      This is  post number 49 from the series of "Vedic maths" blogs. Here in this blog we will learn about "Method of Cubing Number"

Sometimes the divisors are such that it is difficult to calculate the answer by itself. In these cases, we substitute the divisor using another number and then calculate the answer.

Cubing numbers:
Cubing can be defined as multiplying a number by itself and again by itself.
The cube of a number is expressed by putting a small three on the top right part of the number.
For example, 
3^3 = 9
5^3 = 125.

In this blog we will study two methods of cubing numbers.
  1. Formula Method
  2. The Anupriya sutra 
1. Formula method:
The cube of any number can be found out using the formulae:
  1. (a + b)^3 = (a^3) + 3(a^2)b + 3a(b^2) + b^3
  2. (a - b)^3  = (a^3) - 3(a^2)b  + 3a(b^2)  - b^3
Using this formulae, we were asked to express any given number as a sum or a difference of two numbers and then find its square.

1. Find the cube of 102

We know that 102 is (100 + 2). We express the cube of 102 in the form of (100 + 2) where the values of a and b are 100 and 2 respectively.

(100 + 2)^3 
= (100)^3 + 3*(100^2)*2 + 3*100*(2)^2 + (2)^3
= 1000000 + 3*(10000)*2 + 3*100*4 + 8
= 1000000 + 60000 + 1200 + 8
= 1061208

Answer:
Cube of 102 is 1061208

2. Find the cube of 97

We know that 97 is (100 - 3). We express the cube of 97 in the form of (100 - 3) where the values of a and b are 100 and 3 respectively.

(100 - 3)^3 
= (100)^3 - 3*(100^2)*3 + 3*100*(3)^2 - (3)^3
= 1000000 - 3*(10000)3 + 3*100*9 - 27
= 1000000 - 90000 + 2700 - 27
= 912673

Answer:
Cube of 97 is 912673

The formula method is of the simplest and most straight forward methods of cubing a number.

Find Cube of following:

  1. (107)^3 = 1225043
  2. (97)^3   = 912673
  3. (301)^3 = 27270901
The simplicity of this method can be vouched from examples given above.


You may try following example:

Find cube of followings

1. (93)^3

2. (297)^3

3. (503)^3
