VEDIC MATHS-90
VEDIC MATHS
By OMKAR TENDOLKAR
Hello friends,
This is post number 90 from the series of "Vedic maths" blogs. Here in this blog we will learn about "Percentage"
Percentage:
In mathematics, a percentage is a number or ratio that can be expressed as a fraction of 100.
If we have to calculate percent of a number, divide the number by whole and multiply by 100. Hence, the percentage means, a part per hundred.
The word per cent means per 100. It represented by the symbol “%”.
Converting Percentages into Fractions:
1. Convert 80% into a fraction.
We first convert 80% into a fraction like this, 80% = 80/100 = 4/5.
We have also reduced the fraction to 80 / 100 its simplest form, which is 4/5.
Answer :
80% = 4/5.
2. Convert 40% into a fraction.
We first convert 40% into a fraction like this, 40% = 40/100 = 2/5.
We have also reduced the fraction to 80 / 100 its simplest form, which is 2/5.
Answer :
40% = 2/5.
3. Convert 65% into a fraction.
We first convert 65% into a fraction like this, 65% = 65/100 = 13/20.
We have also reduced the fraction to 65 / 100 its simplest form, which is 13/20.
Answer :
65% = 13/20.
Converting Fractions into Percentages:
1. Say we have to convert 3 / 4 into a percentage.
So this is what we do:
3/4 * 100 = 3 * 25 = 75%
Answer :
3 /4 = 75%.
2. Say we have to convert 2 / 5 into a percentage.
So this is what we do:
2/5 * 100 = 2 * 20 = 40%
Answer :
2 / 5 = 40%.
3. Say we have to convert 17 / 20 into a percentage.
So this is what we do:
17/20 * 100 = 17 * 5 = 85%
Answer :
17 /20 = 85%.
Converting Percentages into Decimals:
1. Say we have to convert 45.6% into a decimal.
So what we do is shift the decimal point two places to the left. So our answer is:
45.6/100 = 0.456
Answer :
45.6% = 0.456.
2. Say we have to convert 8.09% into a decimal.
So what we do is shift the decimal point two places to the left. So our answer is:
8.09/100 = 0.0809
Answer :
8.09% = 0.0809.
3. Say we have to convert 0.674% into a decimal.
So what we do is shift the decimal point two places to the left. So our answer is:
0.674/100 = 0.00674
Answer :
0.674% = 0.00674.
Solve the following example.
1. Convert 75% into a fraction.
3. convert 45% into a decimal.
Ans : 75% = 75 / 100 = 3 / 4.
2. convert into 7/10 a percentage.
Ans : 7/10 * 100 = 7 * 10 = 70%
Ans : 45 / 100 = 9 / 20 = 4.5 / 10 = 0.45.
The simplicity of this method can be vouched from examples given above.
You may try following examples.
1. Convert 21% into a fraction.
2. Convert 33% into a fraction.
3. convert into 3/10 a percentage.
4. convert into 8/10 a percentage.
5. convert 47% into a decimal.
6. convert 50% into a decimal.
