VEDIC MATHS

                           By OMKAR TENDOLKAR

Hello friends,

This is  post number 37 from the series of "Vedic maths" blogs. Here in this blog we will learn about "Digit-Sum Method".

Digit-Sum Method:

All the techniques that we have discussed in previous posts till now have emphasized various methods of quick calculation. They have helped us in reducing our time  in some cases provided the final answer without any actual calculation.

In this post, we will study the digit-sum method. This method is not used for quick calculation but only  for quick checking of answers. It will help us verify the answer that we have obtained to a particular question.

Although the digit-sum method is discussed by Jagadguru Bharati Krishna Maharaj in his study, mathematicians in other parts of the world were aware of this principle even before the thesis of Swamiji was published. Prof. Jackaw Trachtenberg and other mathematicians have dealt with this principle in their research work.

METHOD:

The digit-sum method (also known as the add-up method) can be used to check answers involving multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, squares, square roots, cube roots, etc. The procedure involved is very simple. We have to convert any given number into a single digit by repetitively adding up all the digits of that number.

Examples:

1) Find the digit-sum of 2467539

 Given number is 2467539.

We add all the digits of that number.

2 + 4 + 6 + 7 + 5 + 3 + 9 = 36

(Note: the digit sum will always be a single digit. You have to keep on adding the numbers until you get a single-digit answer.)

Now, we take the number 36 and add its digits 3 + 6 to get the answer 9.

Thus, we have converted the number 2467539 into its digit-sum 9.

Answer:

digit  sum of 2467539 is 9.

2) Find the digit-sum of 56768439

We add all the digits of that number.

5 + 6 + 7 + 6 + 8 + 4 + 3 + 9 = 48

Now, we take number 48 and its digit 4 + 8  to get the answer 12.

keep on adding the numbers until you get a single-digit answer.

again, we take the number 12 and add its digit 1 + 2 to get the answer 3.

Answer:

Digit sum of 56768439 is 3.

3) Find the digit-sum of 34

Process:

3 + 4 = 7

Answer:

Digit sum of 34 is 7.

4) Find the digit-sum of 4444

We add all the digits of that number.

4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16

             1 + 6 =  7

Answer:

Digit sum of 4444 is 7.

5) Find the digit-sum of 915372468

We add all the digits of that number.

9 + 1 + 5 + 3 + 7 + 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 = 45

                                           4 + 5 =  9

Answer:

Digit sum of 915372468 is 9.

Find Digital-Sum of following:

  1. The digit sum of 467533 is 1.
  2. The digit sum of 459991 is 1..
  3. The digit sum of 107777 is 2.

The simplicity of this method can be vouched from examples given above.

You may try following example:

Find Digit-sum of followings

1. 345678

2. 8967903

3. 9867834567

You may answer this in comment box. You may ask your any query or doubt in comment box. I will try to resolve as early as possible.

In next blog we will discuss about "Application of Digit-Sum Method".

Are you excited for this?...
Then, please wait for it.
I will post my new blog in next week.

We will meet very soon through our next  blog. Till that stay connected, stay healthy and stay safe.

Thanks

for giving your valuable time.

Good day😊.
